Aerogarden or real hydroponics system?

Well folks, my next project is hydroponics. However to get started I went ahead and bid on ebay and won a 7 pots used Aerogarden,  also bought some seeds and starter kit, total about $60. This should be enough to help me learn how it work, how it will react, learn more about it before building my own totally hydroponics system.

I live in the North East Coast of the USA, winter can be very cold, down to 20s average, so even green house might not be efficient, so hydroponics indoor might be best. My plan is after I learn, test, educated myself on this aerogarden, I will proceed in building a bigger version. It appears the basic concept is circulation of the nutrients water liquid for the roots by using a air pump or even water pump circulate the water nutrients and then the grow light, some of the grow lights emits not just lights but also heat so probably enough for indoor no need additional heaters, how if it does need one then it will be a burden to electricity budget.

I will start growing small herbs first  such as those favorites Vietnamese Pho soup, hope within a month to get a bunch growing. Stay tuned, will keep everyone update. I will have a separate category for this soon.
